Amy Salfen joined Yu Ming for the 2020-2021 school year as the Kindergarten English teacher after having taught grades 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th for 9 years in SFUSD and Pacifica. She grew up in Massachusetts, and graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans. She moved to San Francisco in 2001 to earn her Master’s degree from the Academy of Art. Before becoming a teacher, she worked in graphic design and marketing for architecture firms in San Francisco. She earned her teaching credential from SFSU and literacy credential from UCSD.
She is passionate about early childhood agency and finding multidisciplinary ways to teach children a love for learning. As a school leader, she is committed to: coaching teachers so they continue to grow and develop their skills, as well as ensuring that each and every student thrives at their own capacity. When she is not teaching, she loves skiing, swimming, or working on house projects with her husband and two children.
