Before coming to Yu Ming, Greg Callaham was at Alpha Public Schools, K-12 charter network in San Jose, for seven years, most recently as the Senior Director of Culture. In that role, Greg supports school leaders in implementing positive school culture systems and multi-tiered systems of support across the network’s elementary, middle, and high schools. He also worked alongside Alpha’s Chief Academic Officer to develop and codify Alpha’s academic model and vision, and to coach and develop school leaders as instructional coaches and human-driven leaders. Greg co-developed Alpha’s “Personalized Leadership Training” program–an integrated social-emotional learning program with a focus on hands-on practice and leadership development.
Before Alpha, Greg participated as a school leadership resident at High Tech Middle School in San Diego, California; was the Director of Educational Game Design at an edtech startup focused on primary school education in Shanghai, China; and was a middle school math teacher in Portland, Oregon. Greg started out as a psychology research coordinator at a Veterans Hospital before switching careers to focus on education.
An East Bay native and bi-racial Chinese-American, Greg grew up visiting his grandmother in Oakland Chinatown on the weekends. As an adult, he lived in China for three years.
Greg’s experiences navigating different cultural contexts and identities since childhood have greatly informed his drive to prepare student leaders who can do the same in this increasingly global world.
